What you don’t know can hurt you
Managing your career is a big part of the business of being an actor and booking work is just part one of the financial equation. Actor/self-manager Jan Skene will enlighten you as to the ins and outs of the paperwork, money trail and online resources; and Talent Agent Paul Christie (The Characters Talent Agency) will provide insight into the role agents play in the Actor-Agent relationship.
This workshop is for anyone who is booking film gigs and wondering how best to manage and keep track of their income, deductions, benefits and residual payments (Full and Apprentice Members*). What happens after you sign that contract? Do you just close your eyes and trust the myriad of financial details are going to be taken care of? Do you know where to look to see your work history, your RRSP details and benefit plans? If you hand your tax preparation off to an accountant, do you know how to explain your pay stubs and work deductions? And if you have an agent – what is their obligation to you AND what is your obligation to them in your working relationship? If you don’t have an agent, is it time to start looking? What are the promotional tools you need to take your career to the next level.
*Full and Apprentice Members will be given preference, followed by AABP Members.
